SpotterLog

Help & FAQ

Everything you need to know about using SpotterLog.

Is SpotterLog free?+

Yes — SpotterLog is free to download to iOS devices (iPhone & iPad) and access via the web. The free account supports logging up to 10 sightings. We offer affordable plans that are priced by the size of the collection. Our most popular subscription is PRO that supports up to 2,500 aircraft with live position tracking and active monitoring for changes like accidents, owner updates and registration updates.

What platforms does it support?+

SpotterLog has awesome iOS apps that are built for iPhone and iPad and we have full-featured web functionality that works great with Android and mobile devices.

How does logging an aircraft work?+

Take a live photo from your mobile device or upload from your photo album, Dropbox or any accessible file system. SpotterLog reads the photo's metadata and automatically tags where you were when you spotted the plane. Enter the tail number and we automatically pull in the aircraft history — who owns it, where has it been, has it been involved in an accident and more.

Does SpotterLog track aircraft in real time?+

Yes — we show a radar map on SpotterLog.aero of any tracked plane in your catalog while it is in flight. We don't have historical playback of flights like FlightAware or FlightRadar24; however, we save the last known position of every aircraft in the world that is broadcasting to the ADSB network to our log daily. If an aircraft you are tracking has flown, you can see its last known position on an interactive map via the iOS app or Web.

What are change alerts?+

SpotterLog watches the aircraft in your collection and watchlist. We alert you when ownership changes, registration events happen, certificates expire, and when NTSB records are logged against the aircraft — iOS users get push notifications alerting them to changes. Web users can see a list of changes in the log on their Dashboard.

Can I import my past sightings?+

Yes — you can bulk import your past sightings so your whole spotting history lives in one place.

How does SpotterLog relate to AviatorDB?+

SpotterLog is the companion app to AviatorDB. AviatorDB is the aviation data platform and encyclopedia; SpotterLog is your personal collection of the aircraft you've captured.
